Leiden City
Leiden is a typical university city, and with hundred-thousand inhabitants it is a small city with an attractive social climate. The university is prominently visible on the streetscene, with its many buildings, 4700 employees and over fifteen-thousand students. Old and new go hand in hand: the old age of the Academy building, the Gravensteen and the monumental Kamerlingh Omnes Laboratory seem self-evident, and the relatively new University Library underline that the university is also a modern architect.
