The Moot Court is considered one of the most prestigious moot court competitions in the world. Are you interested in applying for a place on the team?
For the seventh time a team from the Leiden University will participate in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court Competition in Vienna, Austria. The Moot Court is considered one of the most prestigious moot court competitions in the world. In most law schools, being selected as a team member is in itself a sign of excellence. The goal of the Vis Arbitral Moot is to foster the study of international commercial law and arbitration for resolution of international business disputes through its application to a concrete problem of a client and to train law leaders of tomorrow in methods of alternative dispute resolution.
The team will consist of third or fourth year students of the Leiden Law School (exchange students, (near)native English-speaking, are most welcome too) and (Adv.) LLM students as long as they are not yet admitted to the practice of law. There are 8 to 10 places available in the team. The team shall be coached by prof. dr. Marielle Koppenol-Laforce, partner at Houthoff Buruma and her colleagues and ex-mooters.
It is also a good chance to get insight in a leading Dutch law firm. The work will have to be done in the period from around 1 October 2015 until Easter 2016 (oral pleadings in Vienna). It consists of writing a statement of claim (due beginning December 2015) and a statement of response (due mid January 2016) in English and pleadings. In preparation of the latter pre-moots will be held in February/March 2016 in the Peace Palace, The Hague and in Dutch law firms. The trip to Vienna (the week before Easter 2016) do not consist of hard work only but also of drinks, visits to foreign law firms and meeting members of the 250 other teams from all over the world. It is an experience never to forget!
