Research

Geerten Waling MA (1986) studied modern history and philosophy at the University of Amsterdam, which he concluded with a Research Master thesis about religion in the life and work of Ernest Renan (1823-1892). From 2010 to 2015 he was a PhD researcher at the Institute for History, Leiden University. He hopes to defend his thesis '1848 - Clubkoorts en revolutie. Democratische experimenten in Parijs en Berlijn' (a study into the democratic experiments in the European revolutions of 1848) in 2016. He is currently affiliated as a postdoc researcher to the Leiden Law School; and to the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences as a postdoc researcher and as the coordinator of the interdisciplinary Profile Area Political Legitimacy.
